Happy Birthday, baby girl!

We woke up at 3:15 am Thursday (ICK!) to get ready and head to the hospital for a 5 am check-in. I had been having mild contractions for days and they were beginning to get stronger even as we got checked in. My doctor didn’t think we would even need pitocin. He planned to just break my water. He came in to warn us that he thought I would go pretty quickly after he broke my water. In other words, I needed to get the epidural before hand or just go natural. I’m not brave enough to go natural. So I had the epidural and a relatively painless birth.

I did have some weirdness though. I had a reaction to the epidural that made me feel like I had bathed in poison ivy. I itched from neck to my hips. They eventually gave me Benadryl which helped. I also was horribly nauseated for a lot of the labor. I finally gave in and took Zofran even though I didn’t want to load up with so much medication. But it stopped the pukey feeling for which I was quite thankful.

Four and a half hours after he broke my water, I was ready to deliver. The room filled with scurrying people and Danny’s hand got squeezed a lot in preparation for some seriously hard work. I pushed through two and a half contractions and she was here and Danny cut the cord. She was a little on the blue side and refused to cry for the first couple of seconds, so they tickled her and aggravated her and whisked her to the warmer where she finally let out a good squeal.
I held her for a couple seconds before they took her back to clean her up and the doctor started stitching me up. We were able to nurse for a few minutes and she got a good start at that. Overall, it was a picture perfect delivery and prayers were definitely answered!

Congrats! I am glad that you were able to have such a quick labor and delivery. I can't wait to see pictures of Haven!
